Anna Houston has been living in Sligo for more than 29 years and is best known to Sligo audiences as mandolin, cello player and founding member of Sligo Folk Band NoCrows. Anna regularly writes string arrangements for bands and singer/songwriters, and has contributed many of her own compositions to the NoCrows repertoire.
She is active in many musical genres, playing cello in the Sligo Baroque Orchestra, in many smaller groups at the monthly music afternoons in the Model, as well as in many sessions and pub gigs. With NoCrows she has toured in Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, England, Germany, Denmark and Spain. She has performed and recorded with numerous artists including Mike Scott & Steve Wickham, Felip Carbonell, Perry Blake, Declan O’Rourke, Those Nervous Animals, Dervish, Cathy Jordan, Eddi Reader, Lisa Lambe, Martin Tourish, Seamie O’Dowd and Kieran Quinn to name but a few.
Anna studied cello at the Conservatory in her home town Bern, Switzerland, and taught herself Banjo and Mandolin in her late teens. She teaches at Sligo Academy of Music and in many schools as part of Music Generation Sligo.
