Fiachra Cunningham is a multi-instrumentalist and an accomplished singer/songwriter. Originally from Cootehall a village outside Carrick on Shannon he now lives in Grange, Co. Sligo.
At 5 years old, he began studying Traditional Music with Paddy Ryan and went on to win many competitions in Roscommon and the Connacht Finals. He took up Guitar at 12 and was lead guitarist and main writer/composer with original rock bands round Carrick on Shannon in his teens. During his teens he also studied Classical & Flamenco Guitar at the Leinster School of Music for a number of years.
At 30 years old, he returned to live in Ireland. Soon after began to set up a new original band Rackhouse Pilfer and is best known for his work in this time as a member of this successful Acoustic Rock and Alt/Country band. In these 7 years Rackhouse Pilfer had great success in the Charts, played all the major Festivals and were invited to record with Tom Jones and Imelda May when they featured on his Album Long Lost Suitcase.
Since then, Fiachra has been working as a session violinist with acts such as Mike Denver, Michael English, Nathan Carter, Lisa McHugh, Patrick Feeney. Touring in Ireland, USA, Asia and across Europe.
Fiachra was writing and co-writing many songs in his teens for his original bands and local recording projects. At 18 years old he joined IMRO (Irish Music Rights Organisation, the organisation that collects royalties for Irish Songwriters). By 20, he was head hunted to play Fiddle with a touring folk-rock band and continued to travel the world and play in various bands during his 20’s.
Having travelled the world with music and his violin, Fiachra is now working more locally and focusing his time on teaching music and enjoying life in Sligo with his young family.
